Fitment on a used power steering pump varies by vehicle, so a bit of detail goes a long way. Our request form covers what breakers need to know, so every quote you get back is for the correct part:
Most Peugeot 308s use electric power steering (EPS), which is motor-assisted and has no hydraulic pump at all — this applies to the Mk1 (2007–2013) and the Mk2 (2013–2021) in the vast majority of variants. A traditional hydraulic power steering pump was fitted to some early Mk1 308s with certain diesel engines, but this is the exception rather than the rule. If you are looking for a hydraulic pump, confirm with your breaker against your exact registration before ordering, as many 308s simply will not have one.
Both years sit within the Mk1 generation (2007–2013), so there is a reasonable chance of compatibility, but engine size matters here — pumps are matched to the specific engine fitted, so a pump from a 2.0 HDi car is unlikely to suit a 1.6 HDi. Confirm the engine code as well as the year with the breaker against your registration before purchasing a used pump.
The Mk2 308 launched in 2013 and is a different generation with a different platform, so a Mk1 pump is very unlikely to interchange — and in practice most Mk2 cars use electric power steering anyway, making a hydraulic pump irrelevant for them. If your Mk2 is showing a steering fault, confirm with the breaker whether your specific car is hydraulic or electric before searching for a pump.
Trim level does not affect power steering pump fitment on the 308 — what matters is the generation and the engine fitted, not whether the car is an Active, Access, Allure, GT Line, or any other trim. Bear in mind that cosmetic differences between trims mean a second-hand pump may arrive in a different colour or with different brackets, but those differences do not affect function.
The simplest check is to look under the bonnet for a hydraulic fluid reservoir labelled for power steering — if there is none, your car has electric power steering and no pump exists to replace. You can also confirm by providing your registration to a breaker, who can look up the original factory specification quickly and advise whether a hydraulic pump was ever fitted to your car.
Because most 308s have electric power steering, hydraulic pumps for this model are relatively uncommon in breakers' yards, so availability may be limited. When you do find one, make sure the breaker can match the pump to your exact engine size and variant, as supplying your registration number is the safest way to ensure you are getting the right unit.
