Who we are
Findapart.com ("Findapart", "we", "us") is a UK marketplace connecting people who need used vehicle parts with vehicle dismantlers ("breakers") who may have them in stock. Findapart was established in 1999 and is the data controller for the information described here, registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration reference ZC197733. When you make a part request
We collect your name, email address, phone number, vehicle details (including the registration number if you provide it), details of the part you need, and any photos or notes you add. We use this to send your request to breakers who cover your vehicle make so they can quote you. This processing is necessary to provide the service you have asked for (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
Vehicle registration lookups
If you enter a registration number we look it up with a third-party vehicle data provider to identify the make, model, year and specification. The provider receives the registration number only - never your name or contact details. We store the returned vehicle details against your request.
When breakers quote you
Breakers quoting on your request see the request details, including vehicle, part, photos and notes. Your contact details are shown to a breaker only when you choose to reveal them on your quote comparison page, so you can deal with each other directly. We record when contact details are revealed.
If you join as a breaker
We collect your business name, contact details and the vehicle makes you cover, and use these to send you matching part requests and operate your account.
Website analytics
We use StatCounter to understand how the site is used (pages visited, browser type, approximate location from IP address). StatCounter has its own privacy policy at statcounter.com/about/legal/. We rely on legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) for this.
Emails
We send transactional emails connected to your request or account, such as request confirmations and quote notifications. We do not sell your details or send third-party marketing.
Who we share information with
Breakers receive your request details, and your contact details when you choose to reveal them. Service providers - our web host, vehicle data provider and analytics provider - receive only what is needed to run the service. We do not sell personal information to anyone.
How long we keep information
We keep requests, quotes and related records for as long as needed to operate the marketplace and afterwards as required for legal and accounting purposes. Contact us if you would like a request or account removed sooner and we will action it unless the law requires us to keep it.
Your rights
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, request erasure in certain circumstances, object to or restrict certain processing, and data portability. Email contact@findapart.com and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner (ico.org.uk), though we would welcome the chance to resolve any concern first.
Cookies
We use cookies that are necessary for the site to work (keeping your part request in progress and keeping breakers logged in) plus a StatCounter analytics cookie that is only set if you accept it via our cookie banner. You can control cookies in your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site working.
Security
Information is stored on servers in the United Kingdom. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect it, including access controls and regular backups.
