Fitment questions

Does the Nissan Kubistar actually have a coil pack?

No — the Nissan Kubistar sold in the UK was powered exclusively by diesel engines (the 1.5 dCi being the most common), and diesel engines use a compression-ignition system rather than a spark-ignition one, so they have no coil pack, spark plugs, or HT leads at all. If your Kubistar is misfiring or has an ignition-related fault code, the component you are most likely looking for is a glow plug or glow plug relay, which serves a similar 'starting aid' role on a diesel. Speak to your breaker about glow plugs or fuel system parts instead.

Could an early or late Kubistar have had a petrol engine with a coil pack?

The Nissan Kubistar (sold in the UK from around 2003 onwards, based on the Renault Kangoo platform) was only ever offered in the UK market with diesel power, so no UK-specification Kubistar would have left the factory with a coil pack fitted. Some European markets may have had petrol variants, but if your vehicle is UK-registered you will not find a coil pack on it. If you have bought a grey-import Kubistar with a petrol engine, confirm the engine code with your breaker, who can then advise whether a coil pack is available.

I've been quoted a coil pack for my Kubistar — is the seller mistaken?

Almost certainly yes, if your Kubistar is a standard UK diesel model — it simply has no coil pack to replace. It is possible the seller has confused the Kubistar with another Nissan or Renault van that does use a petrol engine and coil pack, or has misidentified the fault. Double-check the engine type on your V5 or via a VIN check, and tell your breaker the exact engine code so they can identify the correct ignition or fuel system component you actually need.

What ignition parts does a Nissan Kubistar actually need?

Because the Kubistar runs a diesel engine, the closest equivalent to a coil pack in terms of cold-start and combustion assistance is the glow plug — there is one per cylinder — along with the glow plug relay or timer unit. Other related parts worth investigating if you have a misfire or starting problem include the fuel injectors and the EGR valve. Your breaker can source these against your registration and engine code to ensure the right specification.
