Fitment questions

What years does the Mercedes-Benz CLK bumper fit, and are there different generations?

The CLK ran across two main generations: the W208 (1997–2002) and the W209 (2002–2009), and bumpers are not interchangeable between these two platforms. Within each generation there was also a facelift — the W208 was facelifted in 1999 and the W209 in 2005 — and the front bumper design changed at each of these points. Always confirm the exact generation and facelift period with the breaker against your registration before purchasing.

Will a pre-facelift W209 CLK bumper (2002–2005) fit a post-facelift W209 (2005–2009)?

The W209 facelift in 2005 brought changes to the front-end styling, including revised bumpers, grille and lights, so the pre- and post-facelift bumpers are visually different. Whether a specific bumper panel physically interchanges across that 2005 boundary is something you should confirm with the breaker against your registration, as fitting details can vary. Do not assume a pre-2005 bumper will be a straight swap onto a 2005-onwards car without that check.

Does the CLK bumper differ between the Elegance, Avantgarde and AMG Line trim levels?

Trim level does not affect which generation or facelift period a bumper belongs to, so an Elegance and an Avantgarde from the same facelift period share the same standard front bumper. However, AMG-specification models — including factory AMG Sport or full AMG variants — were fitted with a different, more aggressive bumper design that is not the same part as the standard trim bumper. Make sure the breaker confirms whether the part they have is a standard or AMG-style bumper to match what your car requires.

Will a CLK bumper from a convertible fit a CLK coupe?

Within the same generation and facelift period, the front bumper is a front-end panel shared across body styles, so a coupe and a convertible on the same platform and facelift should use the same front bumper. This is one of the areas where door count and roof style do not affect the part, which means you have a broader pool of donor cars to source from. Confirm the generation and facelift year match with your breaker against your registration, and fitment should not be affected by body style alone.

Does the engine or drive type affect which CLK bumper I need?

Engine choice and drivetrain do not affect front bumper fitment on the CLK — a 200K, 320 or 55 AMG all use the same bumper within a given trim and facelift period, with the exception that full AMG models may carry a different bumper style as noted above. This means you can safely source from a wide range of CLK donor cars regardless of what engine they had, as long as the generation, facelift period and trim specification match yours. Confirm the part details with your breaker against your registration to be sure.

I have a 2001 W208 CLK — will a bumper from a 2000 or 1999 car fit mine?

The W208 received a facelift in 1999, so a bumper from a post-facelift 1999-onwards W208 should be from the same styling generation as your 2001 car. In practice this means 1999–2002 W208 bumpers are the relevant pool to source from, while pre-facelift 1997–1998 parts had a different front-end design. Confirm the exact facelift status of any donor car with the breaker against your registration, as production changeovers do not always fall neatly on a calendar year.
