Fitment questions

Will a sill from an earlier W208 CLK fit my W209 CLK?

No — the W208 (1997–2002) and W209 (2002–2009) are entirely different generations with different body pressings, so their sills are not interchangeable. Always source a sill from the correct generation for your car. Confirm the exact generation with your breaker against your registration to be sure.

Does the body style affect which sill I need for my Mercedes CLK?

The CLK was sold as both a two-door coupé and a two-door cabriolet, and the sill pressing differs between these two body styles because the cabriolet's body structure is reinforced differently to compensate for the lack of a fixed roof. Always tell your breaker whether your CLK is a coupé or cabriolet when requesting a sill. Getting this wrong is one of the most common reasons a used sill won't fit.

Will a sill from a CLK 200 fit my CLK 500?

Yes — engine choice does not affect sill fitment on the CLK; the sill pressing is determined by generation and body style, not by what's under the bonnet. A sill from a W209 CLK 200 coupé will be the same panel as one from a W209 CLK 500 coupé, so don't let the engine spec put you off a good used part.

Does trim level matter — will a sill from an Avantgarde fit my Elegance CLK?

Trim level does not affect the structural sill pressing, so an Avantgarde sill and an Elegance sill are the same underlying panel for the same generation and body style. Do be aware that sill mouldings, lower trims, or side skirts can vary in appearance between trim levels, so a cosmetic piece sourced from a different trim may look slightly different to your original. Confirm any cosmetic differences with your breaker before buying.

I have a 2005 CLK — will a sill from a 2002 car fit?

Both years fall within the W209 generation (2002–2009), so in principle the sill pressing should be the same. However, Mercedes occasionally made mid-generation pressing changes that aren't always well documented, so it's worth having your breaker check the part against your registration rather than assuming all W209 sills are identical.

Does it matter whether I need the NS or OS sill when buying from a breaker?

Yes — sills are handed, meaning the nearside (NS, kerb side) and offside (OS, driver's side) are mirror images of each other and are not interchangeable. Always specify clearly which side you need when contacting a breaker, and double-check this before any sill is dismantled or posted to you.
