The intercooler only exists on turbocharged engines, so petrol Mondeos with naturally aspirated engines were never fitted with one. All diesel Mondeos use turbocharged engines and do have an intercooler, and turbocharged petrol variants such as the 2.0 EcoBoost also have one. If you have a naturally aspirated petrol Mondeo and are chasing a boost or heat-related fault, the intercooler is not the part you need — confirm your engine type from your V5 or a VIN check before ordering.

The Mk4 ran from 2007 to 2014 and the Mk5 from 2015 onwards, and these are substantially different cars with different engine families, so a straight swap across that boundary is very unlikely. Trim level makes no difference to intercooler fitment — the intercooler is determined by the engine, not whether the car is a Zetec, Titanium, ST-Line, or any other badge. You could take the intercooler from a basic-spec Mondeo and fit it to a top-spec car with the same engine code with no issue on that front. Focus entirely on matching the engine code rather than the trim name when searching.

Body style does not affect intercooler fitment — the intercooler is an engine-bay component and is the same across hatchback, saloon, and estate variants sharing the same engine. Match the engine code and fuel type, and the body style of the donor car is irrelevant. Your breaker will confirm this when you supply your registration and engine code.

In most cases the intercooler itself is not directly affected by whether the car has a manual or automatic gearbox, as it is part of the engine's air charge system rather than the drivetrain. However, gearbox type can sometimes influence engine tune or variant, which in turn could mean a slightly different intercooler specification, so it is worth mentioning your gearbox type to the breaker alongside your engine code. Always confirm against your registration rather than assuming fitment.
