Fitment questions

Does the Ford Ranger actually have an intercooler?

Yes, but only on the turbocharged diesel engines — all of which are turbocharged — so in practice every diesel Ranger sold in the UK from the first generation onward has an intercooler. There are no petrol Ranger variants sold in the UK market that would carry one. If your Ranger is a diesel, you definitely have one; if somehow you have a petrol-engined import, you would not.

Will an intercooler from a 2014 Ranger fit my 2018 Ranger?

The third-generation Ranger (Mk3) ran from 2011 through to 2022, with a facelift in 2015, so a 2014 and a 2018 car are both Mk3 but sit either side of that facelift boundary. The core engine family — most commonly the 2.2 TDCi or 3.2 TDCi — carried across that facelift, so the engine code is your best guide to whether the intercooler itself is the same unit. Confirm the specific part number with the breaker against both registrations before buying, as ancillary and mounting details can change at a facelift even when the engine code matches.

Does the trim level affect which intercooler I need — for example, does an XL need a different intercooler to a Wildtrak or Raptor?

Trim level does not affect intercooler fitment — the intercooler follows the engine code, not the badge or equipment level. An XL, XLT, Limited, Wildtrak, or Raptor with the same engine code should use the same intercooler. Bear in mind that higher trims like the Raptor may have a different engine variant entirely, so always confirm the engine code from your V5 or a VIN check rather than relying on the trim name alone.

Will a 2.2 TDCi intercooler fit a 3.2 TDCi Ranger?

These are different engines with different power outputs, and the intercooler sizing and connections are likely to differ between them, so you should not assume they are interchangeable. Always quote both the engine code and the engine displacement to the breaker so they can match the correct unit. Confirming against your registration is essential before purchasing.

Does the two-door or four-door body style make any difference to intercooler fitment?

No — the intercooler is part of the engine and turbo system, not the bodywork, so body style has no bearing on which intercooler you need. What matters is the engine code, the year of manufacture, and the gearbox type if the breaker asks. Focus on those details when getting quotes rather than mentioning body style.

I have a pre-2011 Ranger — can I use an intercooler from the newer Mk3 model?

The pre-2011 Ranger belongs to an earlier generation with different engines and a different engine bay layout, so intercoolers from the Mk3 (2011–2022) are very unlikely to be a direct fit. Supply your engine code from the V5 to the breaker so they can identify the correct unit for your specific generation. Do not assume that parts from the later, more common Mk3 will cross over to the older model.
