Diesel engines typically demand a higher Cold Cranking Amp (CCA) rating than equivalent petrol engines, so an HDi 206 battery may well have a different spec to a petrol 206 battery even if the physical case size looks similar. Always check the Ah capacity, CCA figure, and terminal layout of any used battery the breaker offers, and match them to what is currently fitted to your car or specified in your handbook. Don't assume a petrol-sourced battery is a straight swap for a diesel application without verifying the spec first.

Used batteries from a breaker can be a cost-effective short-term solution, but battery condition degrades over time and with charge cycles, so it carries more risk than buying a used mechanical part. Ask the breaker how old the battery is, whether it has been tested, and what Ah and CCA rating it carries — these should match your car's requirement.
