A buyer's guide to used Nissan Qashqai camshaft

No two camshafts are quite the same across different vehicles, so getting the specifics right matters when you buy used, second hand or a replacement. Answer a few quick questions below and breakers will only quote if they have the exact matching part in stock:

Fitment questions

Does a camshaft from an older Nissan Qashqai fit a newer one?

The Qashqai has run across three main generations: the J10 (2006–2013), the J11 (2014–2021, facelifted around 2017), and the J12 (2021–present), and camshafts do not cross between generations as the engines are fundamentally different. Even within a generation, the engine code is the critical factor — a 1.6 petrol camshaft will not suit a 1.5 diesel, for example, even if both cars are the same year. Always confirm your engine code (found on your V5C or via a VIN check) and supply it to the breaker before agreeing a price.

Does every Nissan Qashqai have a camshaft?

Yes — every Nissan Qashqai, regardless of generation, fuel type, or trim, has at least one camshaft, as all of its engines (petrol and diesel) are internal combustion units that require camshafts to operate the valves. Many of the engines fitted are twin-cam (DOHC) designs, meaning there are two camshafts per cylinder bank — one for the inlet valves and one for the exhaust valves — so it is worth telling the breaker which one you need (inlet or exhaust) as well as your engine code.

Will a camshaft from a pre-facelift J11 Qashqai (2014–2017) fit a post-facelift J11 (2017–2021)?

The J11 facelift in 2017 brought engine and ancillary changes alongside the styling updates, so while some engine codes carried over, you cannot assume the camshaft is a straight swap across that 2017 boundary without checking. Confirm your exact engine code with the breaker and ask them to verify the part number against your registration before purchasing.

Does it matter whether my Qashqai is a Visia, Acenta, N-Connecta, or Tekna when buying a camshaft?

Trim level makes no difference to camshaft fitment — a Visia and a Tekna on the same engine code take the same camshaft. What matters is the engine code, fuel type (petrol or diesel), and the generation of the car, not the badge on the tailgate. You may find the breaker's donor car is a different trim to yours, but that is irrelevant as long as the engine codes match.

Does the Qashqai e-Power or hybrid variant have a standard camshaft?

The J12-generation Qashqai e-Power uses a petrol engine to generate electricity rather than drive the wheels directly, but it is still a conventional internal combustion engine and does have camshafts. However, the engine architecture in the e-Power is specific to that system, so make sure the breaker confirms compatibility against your exact engine code and registration rather than just the model name.

I have a 1.5 dCi diesel Qashqai — can I use a camshaft from a Renault or another Nissan with the same engine?

The 1.5 dCi engine (built by Renault and shared across the Renault-Nissan alliance) was used in various Renault and Nissan models, so there is a reasonable chance of cross-platform compatibility — but engine code variants, displacement updates, and emission-spec changes mean you cannot assume this without checking. Supply your engine code to the breaker and let them verify the part number, as there are multiple iterations of the K9K family and not all camshafts are interchangeable between them.
