The CLS has run across three generations: the first-generation C219 ran from 2004 to 2010, the second-generation C218 ran from 2011 to 2018 with a facelift around 2014, and the third-generation C257 launched in 2018. Each generation has a completely different rear bumper design, so you must match the generation to your car – a C219 bumper will not fit a C218, and a pre-facelift C218 bumper may differ from a post-2014 facelift car, so confirm the exact pressing with the breaker against your registration.

Both 2013 and 2016 fall within the second-generation C218 (2011–2018), but 2013 is pre-facelift and 2016 is post-facelift, and the facelift in 2014 brought styling changes that typically affect the rear bumper. You should not assume these are a direct swap – name both registration plates to the breaker and ask them to confirm whether the pressing matches before buying.

Trim level does not change the underlying fitment of a rear bumper to the car's body, so an SE and an AMG Line on the same generation platform share the same basic fit. However, AMG Line and AMG models often have different bumper styling, additional lower valance sections, or different cut-outs for exhaust finishers, so the bumper from a standard SE may look noticeably different on an AMG Line car. Check with the breaker which trim the donor bumper came from so you get the right visual match for your car.

The CLS Shooting Brake is an estate-bodied variant of the C218 generation and its rear end is shaped completely differently to the four-door saloon CLS body. Rear bumpers are body-style specific, so a Shooting Brake bumper will not fit a saloon CLS. Always confirm the body style of the donor car with the breaker before agreeing a price.

Engine choice makes no difference to rear bumper fitment on the CLS – the bumper is determined by the generation, body style, and in some cases whether the car is a facelift or pre-facelift model. You can safely disregard whether the donor car was a diesel 220d or a petrol 400 when checking fitment. Concentrate instead on matching the generation and confirming the model year with the breaker against your registration.

The C219 ran broadly from 2004 to 2010 as a single generation, and in many cases rear bumpers from across that range share the same basic fit. However, there were mid-production detail changes on some panels during the C219's life, so whether a very early car and a late car are a guaranteed match is something to confirm with the breaker against your specific registration rather than assume.
