Buying a used Ford Edge clutch: what matters

Fitment questions

Does the Ford Edge have a clutch?

No – the Ford Edge sold in the UK was exclusively available with an automatic gearbox (a six-speed SelectShift automatic), so it never had a traditional friction clutch assembly at all. If your Edge has a transmission issue, you are most likely looking for automatic transmission components such as a torque converter, valve body, or gearbox unit rather than a clutch. Contact a breaker and quote your registration or VIN so they can identify the exact automatic transmission fitted to your vehicle.

My Edge feels like it's slipping when accelerating – could it be the clutch?

Because all UK Ford Edges were automatic, there is no manual clutch to slip or wear out in the conventional sense. The symptom you are describing on an automatic Edge is more likely related to the torque converter, transmission fluid condition, or internal gearbox wear, so a clutch is not the part you need. A gearbox specialist or breaker who can identify your exact transmission variant from your registration will be able to point you towards the correct automatic transmission parts.

Do any Ford Edge variants have a manual gearbox and clutch?

Not in the UK market – Ford did not offer a manual gearbox option on the Edge here, so no variant, engine size, or trim level came with a clutch. This applies across both the first-generation Edge (2016–2018) and the facelifted version (2019 onwards) sold in the UK. If you have a grey import Edge from North America, it is still worth checking, but UK-specification Edges were automatic-only.

I've been quoted for a clutch for my Ford Edge – is that correct?

Almost certainly not, unless you have a non-UK-specification import with a manual gearbox, which would be very unusual. UK Ford Edges left the factory with a six-speed automatic transmission and therefore have no friction clutch. It is worth going back to the supplier and confirming exactly what component they are quoting for, as they may have misidentified the part you actually need, such as a torque converter or gearbox assembly.
