Within the E60 M5 production run there was no major facelift that changed the fog light aperture, so donor year within that window matters less than confirming it is from an M5 bumper rather than a standard 5 Series. Confirm the exact part number with the breaker against your registration to be sure.

The F10 M5 ran from 2011 to 2016, with the LCI (facelift) arriving around 2014, and the front bumper and fog light treatment did change at that point. Whether a pre-LCI fog light will physically fit a post-LCI bumper or vice versa is not something we can confirm as fact — give your registration to the breaker and ask them to check against the specific phase of your car. Staying within the same LCI phase is the safest starting point.

The F90 M5 launched in 2018 and the Competition is a trim level rather than a separate model generation, sharing the same front-end structure, so trim level alone does not affect fog light fitment. However, there was an F90 LCI facelift that introduced updated front lighting and bumper styling, so you need to confirm which phase of the F90 your car is before buying a used fog light. The E39 M5 ran from 1998 to 2003 and its front fog lights are handed — the near-side and off-side are not the same unit, so you cannot swap NS for OS. When contacting a breaker, specify clearly which side you need using NS (passenger, left-hand-drive kerb side — near-side in UK right-hand traffic) and OS (driver's side) to make sure you get the correct handed unit.
