Fitment questions

Will a door card from an older BMW M5 fit my newer one?

The M5 has gone through several distinct generations — E34 (1989–1995), E39 (1998–2003), E60 (2005–2010), F10 (2011–2016), and F90 (2018–present) — and door cards are not interchangeable across these boundaries as the body shells, door frames, and interior architectures differ completely between each generation. You must match the door card to the correct generation of M5. If you are unsure exactly which generation you have, check your registration with a breaker who can confirm it before ordering.

Does the BMW M5 actually have door cards?

Yes, all generations of the BMW M5 are fitted with door cards (interior door trim panels) on every door, as the M5 is a saloon or, in the case of the E61 generation, also available as a Touring estate, and door cards are standard on all variants. There is no M5 variant where door cards are absent, so you can proceed with sourcing one from a breaker with confidence.

Does it matter which side I order — can I fit a nearside door card on the offside door?

Yes, side absolutely matters — a nearside (NS, passenger/left) door card is a mirror image of an offside (OS, driver/right) one and the two are not interchangeable. Always specify NS or OS clearly when getting a quote from a breaker. Fitting the wrong side will result in misaligned fixings, incorrect speaker or switch cutouts, and an unusable part.

Will an E60 M5 door card fit an E60 530d or other 5 Series?

The E60 M5 shares its body shell with the standard E60 5 Series, so door cards from other E60 5 Series models will generally fit the same door openings. However, the M5 interior trim may differ in finish, stitching, or M-specific detailing, so a standard E60 door card may not look identical once fitted. This is a cosmetic consideration rather than a fitment one — confirm the exact part references with your breaker to check compatibility with your specific trim level.

Does the trim level affect whether a door card fits — for example, is there a difference between a standard M5 and a Competition model?

In terms of physical fitment to the door frame, trim variants such as the F10 M5 Competition or F90 M5 Competition use the same fundamental door structure, so the door card fitting points should be the same across those variants. You may find cosmetic differences such as different stitching colours or carbon-fibre trim inserts depending on the specification of the donor car. These are aesthetic differences and can be addressed separately — fitment to the door itself should not be affected by the Competition designation.

I have a 2015 BMW M5 — will a door card from a 2012 car fit?

Both a 2012 and a 2015 M5 fall within the F10 generation (2011–2016), so they share the same body generation and door cards should be from the same family of parts. However, you should confirm with the breaker against your specific registration, as there may have been minor running changes to switch blanks, speaker positions, or fixing points during the production run. A good breaker will be able to cross-reference the part against your VIN to give you a reliable answer before you commit.
