Fuel injectors exist on all CLK variants — petrol engines use port or direct injection injectors, and diesel engines (such as the CDI units) use high-pressure common-rail injectors, so every CLK engine has them in some form. However, the injector type, design, and fitting differ significantly between petrol and diesel, so a diesel CDI injector will not interchange with a petrol unit under any circumstances. Always confirm your fuel type and engine code with the breaker before ordering.

The CLK ran across two main generations: the W208 (1997–2002) and the W209 (2002–2009, facelifted in 2005), and these are distinct platforms with different engines and fuel systems. A fuel injector from a W208 will not reliably cross over to a W209 even if the engine displacement looks similar on paper, because engine codes and injection systems changed between generations. Always supply your exact engine code — found on your V5 or via a VIN check — so the breaker can match correctly.

Within the W209 generation, the engine code is the most important detail — if two cars share the same engine code, the injectors are very likely compatible regardless of whether one is a pre-facelift (2002–2005) or post-facelift (2005–2009) car. That said, there were some running changes to fuel system components during the production run, so confirm the specific part against your registration with the breaker rather than assuming year alone guarantees a match. Providing your engine code alongside your registration is the single most useful thing you can do to avoid a wasted journey.

Trim level — whether Elegance, Avantgarde, or AMG sport pack — makes no difference to fuel injector fitment at all, because injectors follow the engine, not the badge or interior specification. The one exception worth noting is that a genuine AMG variant (such as the CLK 55 AMG or CLK 63 AMG) has a distinct engine code and will require injectors specific to that AMG unit, which are different from a standard 5.0 or 6.2 non-AMG engine. As long as the engine codes match, trim is irrelevant to the part itself.

Although both are diesel CDI engines, the 220 CDI and 270 CDI use different engine codes and different common-rail injection systems, so the injectors are not directly interchangeable. The 220 CDI typically used a 2.2-litre four-cylinder unit while the 270 CDI used a 2.7-litre five-cylinder, meaning the injector flow rates, electrical connectors, and physical dimensions can differ. Always match on engine code first and confirm the part number with your breaker against your specific registration.

Used diesel CDI injectors in particular often carry individual calibration codes that should be programmed into the engine ECU after fitting, and some petrol injection systems may also require adaptation following a swap. Whether coding is needed on your specific engine, and whether the breaker's unit can be successfully paired to your car, is something you must confirm with the breaker and a qualified Mercedes technician — this is not a detail that can be guaranteed in advance. The breaker can advise on what comes with the injector, but coding responsibility typically lies with whoever carries out the installation.
