Buying a used Mercedes-Benz GLA fuel injector: what matters

Fitment on a used fuel injector varies by vehicle, so a bit of detail goes a long way. Our request form covers what breakers need to know, so every quote you get back is for the correct part:

Fitment questions

Do Mercedes-Benz GLA fuel injectors actually exist on all variants, or only certain engines?

Fuel injectors exist across the GLA range but the type varies by engine: petrol GLA models (such as the GLA 200, GLA 250 and AMG GLA 45) use port or direct petrol injectors, while diesel variants (GLA 200d, GLA 220d and GLA 220 CDI) use diesel direct injectors — these are entirely different parts and will not interchange. The key thing to establish before searching is your fuel type and, more importantly, your engine code, which you can find on your V5C or via a VIN check. Never assume a petrol injector will suit a diesel engine or vice versa.

Will a fuel injector from a first-gen GLA (X156, 2013–2019) fit my newer GLA (H247, 2020-onwards)?

The GLA moved from the X156 generation (2014–2019, with a facelift around 2017) to the all-new H247 generation from 2020 onwards, and these are completely different platforms with different engine families and injector specifications. Even where engine codes appear similar across the two generations, the injector design, connector type and flow rate may differ, so you should not assume cross-generation fitment. Name the boundary — X156 to H247 — to your breaker and ask them to confirm compatibility against your specific registration and engine code before purchasing.

Does the trim level affect which fuel injector I need — for example, does a GLA Sport need a different injector to a GLA AMG Line?

Trim level does not affect fuel injector fitment on the GLA — Sport, SE, AMG Line, Night Edition and similar trims are cosmetic and equipment packages only, and none of them alter the engine specification. What matters is your engine code, which is shared across trim levels running the same engine, so a GLA 220d AMG Line and a GLA 220d Sport with the same engine code will use the same injector. Be aware that used injectors sourced from different trim vehicles may carry cosmetic differences such as colour-coded clips or brackets, but the injector itself should be the same part.

I have a 2017 GLA — is that the pre-facelift X156 or the facelifted version, and does it affect the injector?

The X156 GLA received its facelift in 2017, so a 2017 car could be either the pre-facelift or post-facelift model depending on its exact build date. The facelift brought styling and equipment updates, but whether any ancillary changes to injector fittings or fuel system components were made at that point is something you should confirm with the breaker against your registration rather than assume. The safest approach is to supply your engine code and full VIN to the breaker so they can match the correct injector regardless of which side of the facelift your car falls on.

Does it matter whether my GLA is front-wheel drive or 4MATIC when buying a fuel injector?

The fuel injector is determined by the engine, not by whether the car is front-wheel drive or 4MATIC — a GLA 220d 4MATIC and a GLA 220d 2WD sharing the same engine code will use the same injectors. Drivetrain layout only becomes relevant when sourcing driveline parts such as propshafts, transfer cases or rear differentials. Focus on matching the engine code from your V5C, and your breaker will be able to supply the correct injector regardless of 4MATIC status.

Do I need to worry about ECU coding or immobiliser pairing when fitting a used fuel injector to my GLA?

Modern Mercedes-Benz engines, including those in the GLA, can require injector coding so the ECU knows the precise flow calibration of each injector — this is separate from immobiliser pairing but is still an important consideration with used parts. Whether coding is required on your specific engine variant, and whether a used injector from a breaker can be successfully coded to your vehicle, is something you should confirm with your fitting garage and the breaker before purchase rather than take as given. This does not mean used injectors cannot be used, but it is worth factoring potential coding costs into your budget.
