Used propshafts vary between vehicles - and whether you call it used, second hand or a replacement, matching the right one matters. These are the details breakers need to match the right part to your car - our request form asks them so you only hear from suppliers with the correct part:
Most Fiat Pandas are front-wheel-drive and have no propshaft at all — the engine drives the front wheels directly through driveshafts, so there is no propshaft in the drivetrain. The exception is the Panda 4x4, which has a rear axle driven via a propshaft connecting the front-mounted engine and gearbox to the rear differential. If your Panda is a standard front-wheel-drive model, you will not find a propshaft on it and one cannot be sourced for it.
Only Panda 4x4 variants are fitted with a propshaft, as these are the only versions with driven rear wheels. The Panda 4x4 has been available across multiple generations: the first generation (Mk1, 1980–2003) included a 4x4 variant, the second generation (Mk2, 2003–2012) offered a 4x4, and the third generation (Mk3, 2012 onwards) continued the 4x4 version including the Panda Cross. Standard City, Eleganza, Lounge, Easy, Pop and similar front-wheel-drive trim levels do not have a propshaft.
The Mk2 and Mk3 Panda 4x4 are different generations with different floorpans and drivetrain layouts, so a straight swap between them is very unlikely to be correct. You should treat propshafts as generation-specific and not assume interchangeability across this boundary. Confirm the part against your exact registration with the breaker before purchasing.
Trim level names such as Cross, Rockstar or standard 4x4 badging do not determine propshaft fitment — what matters is the generation and the engine fitted, as different engine and drivetrain configurations can affect propshaft specification. Cosmetic differences between trims are irrelevant to the propshaft itself. Always confirm the correct part against your registration plate with the breaker.
Engine size can influence drivetrain components, and the Panda 4x4 has been offered with different engines across its generations, including petrol and diesel options, which may carry different propshaft specifications. You should always quote your exact engine size and registration to the breaker so they can verify the correct unit. Do not assume a propshaft from a different engine variant will be an automatic match even within the same generation.
If your Panda is front-wheel-drive (which covers the vast majority of Pandas on UK roads), you do not have a propshaft, and what you most likely need is a driveshaft — these are the shafts that run from the gearbox to each front wheel and are a common wear item. There is a NS (nearside, left) and OS (offside, right) driveshaft, so make sure you know which side has failed before contacting a breaker. If you are unsure, describe the symptoms or the location of the worn part to the breaker and they can help identify the correct component.
