A used towbar that fits one vehicle won't always fit another - even within the same model range. These questions help breakers match stock to your exact vehicle before they quote:
No – the BMW M2 has never been factory-fitted with a towbar, and BMW does not approve towing with the M2; no towing capacity is quoted for any variant or generation of the car. The M2 is a pure performance coupé and its rear subframe, bodywork, and bumper are not designed or homologated for towing use. If you need a towbar for a BMW, you are likely thinking of a different model such as the 3 Series, 5 Series, or X-series, all of which can be fitted with towbars.
No reputable towbar manufacturer produces an approved aftermarket towbar for the BMW M2, because BMW publishes zero towing capacity for the car and the rear structure is not engineered for towing loads. Fitting an unapproved towbar would almost certainly invalidate your insurance and could be an MoT failure point. If towing is a requirement, a BMW that is actually rated for towing – such as an X3, X5, or 5 Series Touring – would be the right starting point.
Almost certainly not in any meaningful or legal sense – the M2 shares a platform with the 2 Series Coupé but has a unique rear bumper, diffuser, and subframe setup, and critically it has no manufacturer-approved towing capacity. Any generic '2 Series' towbar listing should be treated with great caution and is unlikely to be safe or compliant on an M2. If you genuinely need a towbar for a 2 Series, check that the listing specifies a non-M variant with a published towing capacity, and confirm compatibility with the breaker against your exact registration.
In this case the generation does not change the answer: neither the first-generation M2 (F87, 2016–2021) nor the second-generation M2 (G87, 2022–present) was ever produced with a factory towbar or a manufacturer towing rating. There is therefore no genuine used towbar from a dismantled M2 to source through a breaker, regardless of which generation you own. If you need a towbar-equipped BMW rear end or electrics, you need to be searching under a different model entirely.
It is extremely unlikely – because BMW never fitted towbars to any M2 variant, a car being broken for spares would not have one to remove. Any listing claiming to be an M2 towbar should be questioned carefully, as it may be mislabelled or from a completely different model. A reputable breaker will confirm this honestly; if you explain what you actually need to tow, they can point you toward a suitable BMW donor vehicle that genuinely had a towbar fitted from the factory.
