Second Hand Mercedes-Benz GLS Fog Light

Fog lights were available on the GLS but were not standard across all trim levels and markets — on some specifications they were an optional extra, so not every GLS will have factory-fitted fog lights. If your car does not currently have fog lights, it may simply not have been ordered with them. Check your car's build sheet or service history, and confirm with the breaker whether your registration had fog lights as original equipment before buying a replacement.

The X166 and X167 are entirely different generations with different front-end designs, so parts from the two do not interchange. You need to source a fog light that matches your specific generation — X166 for the older shape, X167 for the current one. Confirm the exact generation against your registration with the breaker before purchasing.

Engine and drivetrain do not affect fog light fitment on the GLS — the front bumper and lighting assembly are shared across petrol and diesel variants within the same generation. A fog light from a GLS 350d and a GLS 500 of the same generation will be the same part, so you do not need to match the engine when sourcing one. Just make sure the part is from the correct generation and facelift period.

The GLS X166 ran from 2016 to 2019, and this generation was then replaced entirely by the X167 in 2019 rather than receiving a traditional facelift within its own cycle. Because the boundary here is a full generation change rather than a facelift, parts from an X166 will not cross over to an X167. Always confirm the generation of both the donor and recipient vehicle with the breaker against your registration.

Trim level does not change the physical fog light unit on the GLS — the same housing is used across standard and AMG Line specifications within a generation. However, AMG Line models may have a different bumper styling that affects how the fog light sits or is framed cosmetically, so be aware that surrounding trim pieces may not match if you mix specifications. The fog light itself should be the same part, but confirm with the breaker if you have any cosmetic concerns.

A 2017 GLS sits in the X166 generation (2016–2019), so sourcing a fog light from another X166 is the right starting point. Within the X166 generation you do not need to worry about engine, wheelbase, or trim when matching the fog light. However, some variants were supplied with different lighting technology (for example halogen versus LED), so confirm with the breaker that the unit from the donor vehicle matches your setup before buying.
