Fitment questions

Will a window motor from an older CLS fit my newer one?

The Mercedes-Benz CLS has two main generations: the first generation (C219) ran from 2004 to 2010, and the second generation (C218) ran from 2011 to 2018, with a facelift around 2014. Motors from within the same generation are your best starting point, but whether one crosses the 2010-to-2011 generation boundary is something you should confirm with the breaker against your exact registration, as the door structures differ between C219 and C218. Never assume a part from the opposite generation will drop straight in.

Does it matter which side the window motor comes from — can I use any one I find?

Yes, side absolutely matters — a window motor is paired to its door and regulator mechanism, which differ between the nearside (NS, passenger/left) and offside (OS, driver/right). Always specify NS or OS when requesting a quote, and make sure the breaker matches the side to your vehicle. Fitting the wrong side will mean the motor and regulator mechanism won't align correctly with your door.

I have a 2007 CLS — will a motor from a 2009 CLS fit?

Both the 2007 and 2009 CLS fall within the first-generation C219 (2004–2010), so they share the same body structure and the motor is a strong candidate for compatibility. That said, always confirm with the breaker against your registration to rule out any mid-cycle production changes. Specifying NS or OS and the generation when you request quotes will help the breaker match the right part.

Does the trim level affect which window motor I need — for example, does a CLS350 differ from a CLS500?

Engine variant and trim designation do not affect window motor fitment on the CLS — the door shell and regulator mechanism are the same regardless of whether the car is a CLS350, CLS500, or any other engine variant within the same generation. The part to focus on is the generation (C219 or C218), the door position, and the side (NS or OS). You can confidently source from any equivalent-generation CLS regardless of engine badge.

Will a post-facelift CLS window motor (2014 onwards) fit a pre-facelift C218?

The C218 facelift arrived around 2014, and while the overall body structure of the C218 was carried over, whether window motors interchange freely across that facelift boundary is not something that can be guaranteed without checking. Confirm this directly with the breaker against both your registration and the donor vehicle's registration to be sure. The breaker will be best placed to tell you whether any changes to the door or regulator affect compatibility.

Is a window motor from a CLS Shooting Brake compatible with a standard CLS saloon?

The CLS Shooting Brake (estate body style) was offered alongside the standard four-door saloon CLS within the C218 generation (2011–2018), and the two body styles have different door structures, so their window motors are not necessarily interchangeable. The front doors may share some commonality, but rear door motors are very likely to differ between the Shooting Brake and the saloon. Always tell the breaker exactly which body style your car is, as well as the side and door position, so they can match accordingly.
