The Ford Galaxy ran across two main UK generations: the first-generation (Mk1/Mk2, 1995–2006) and the second-generation (Mk3, 2006–2015), followed by the third-generation (Mk4, 2015 onwards). Tailgates are not interchangeable between these generations as the body shells are completely different platforms. Always source a tailgate from the same generation as your vehicle, and confirm the exact year with your breaker against your registration.
Both 2010 and 2013 Galaxy models fall within the second-generation (Mk3, 2006–2015), so they share the same basic body platform. However, Ford facelifted the Mk3 Galaxy in 2010, and there may have been pressing or detail changes around that period that affect whether panels swap directly. Name both years to your breaker and ask them to check against your registration before agreeing the sale.
Trim level does not affect tailgate fitment on the Ford Galaxy — the body pressing is the same across Zetec, Titanium, and other trim grades within the same generation. You may find cosmetic differences such as a different rear wiper arrangement, badge mounting points, or rear wash-wipe motor spec, but the panel itself will physically fit. Factor in any cosmetic differences when viewing the part, but don't let trim level alone put you off a listing.
The Galaxy and S-MAX share the same Ford EUCD platform and were built alongside each other, so there is a reasonable chance of overlap, but whether the tailgates actually interchange is something you should confirm with your breaker against both registrations rather than assume. Differences in rear pressing, glass aperture, or badge cutouts between the two models sold under different names is exactly the kind of detail a good breaker can check on the spot. Don't purchase on platform alone without that verification.
The tailgate panel itself is the same pressing regardless of whether the donor car had a heated rear screen, wiper, or parking sensors — these are add-ons fitted to the same panel. However, if your car has a rear wiper you will need a tailgate with the correct wiper spindle hole, and sensor-equipped models will have pre-drilled holes that a non-sensor tailgate may lack. Tell your breaker exactly which features your current tailgate has so they can match accordingly.
Both 2016 and 2018 Galaxy models sit within the third-generation (Mk4, launched 2015), so they are on the same platform and the tailgate should be the correct body style. As with any generation, confirm with your breaker against both registrations in case of any mid-generation detail changes that are not always publicly documented. Providing your full registration to the breaker is the safest way to ensure you get the right panel.
