Buying a used Ford Kuga air conditioning condenser: what matters

Fitment on a used air conditioning condenser varies by vehicle, so a bit of detail goes a long way. Our request form covers what breakers need to know, so every quote you get back is for the correct part:

Fitment questions

Does a Ford Kuga air conditioning condenser actually exist, or is it only on certain variants?

The AC condenser exists across the Ford Kuga range, as air conditioning was a standard or widely available feature on virtually all UK variants from the first generation onward. It is a core part of the AC system regardless of engine type or drivetrain, so whether you have a petrol, diesel, or hybrid Kuga you should have one. The only caveat is that very basic early fleet or entry-level cars occasionally left the factory without AC, so confirm your car is AC-equipped before ordering.

Will a Ford Kuga Mk1 condenser fit a Mk2 – does the 2013 to 2016 generation swap with the 2008 to 2012 cars?

The Kuga Mk1 ran from 2008 to 2012 and the Mk2 from 2013 onwards, and these are substantially different vehicles with different front-end structures, so the condensers are not the same part. Trying to cross that generation boundary is very unlikely to work, and you should always source a condenser from the correct generation. Confirm the exact year and engine code with the breaker so they can match from the right shell.

Does a pre-facelift Mk2 Kuga condenser fit a post-facelift Mk2 – will a 2013-2016 part fit a 2017-2019 car?

The Kuga Mk2 received a facelift around 2016-2017 which brought front-end styling changes that can affect condenser mounting and dimensions. Whether the condenser itself crosses that facelift boundary is something you should confirm with the breaker against your registration, as ancillary and mounting changes mid-production are not something we can state as fact here. Give the breaker your engine code from your V5 and they can check against the donor car.

Does the trim level matter – will a Titanium condenser fit my Zetec S or ST-Line Kuga?

Trim level does not affect which air conditioning condenser is fitted – the condenser follows the engine code, fuel type, and model year, not the badge on the boot. A Titanium, Zetec S, or ST-Line Kuga with the same engine in the same model year will use the same condenser. You may notice cosmetic differences between donor cars at the breaker's yard, but these are irrelevant to whether the part fits.

Does the engine code really matter for a condenser, or just the year?

Engine code matters more than most buyers expect, even for a condenser, because different engines can share a model year but use subtly different front-end cooling pack layouts that affect condenser size and fitment. The engine code is printed on your V5 logbook and is the single most useful detail you can give a breaker when requesting a quote. Year alone is a starting point, but engine code plus year together gives the breaker the best chance of sending you the right part first time.

I have a 2.0 TDCi Kuga – will a condenser from a 1.5 EcoBoost or 2.5 PHEV Kuga fit it?

These are different engines with different codes and potentially different cooling pack configurations, so swapping across engine families is not straightforward and we would not recommend assuming they interchange. The PHEV variant in particular has additional hybrid cooling components that make its front-end layout different from a pure diesel or petrol car. Always quote your exact engine code to the breaker and ask them to confirm fitment against the donor vehicle's registration before purchase.
