BMW X7 Power Steering Pump Replacement Parts

The BMW X7 (G07), produced from 2019 onwards, uses an electro-mechanical power steering system, which means there is no hydraulic power steering pump on any variant of this model. This applies across all engine options — whether the 30d, 40d, M50d, 30i, 40i or M50i — none of them use a hydraulic pump to assist the steering. If your steering is heavy or faulty, the fault is likely within the electric power steering motor, the steering column, the steering rack itself, or a related control module rather than a pump. You may want to search for an EPS steering rack or electric steering motor instead, and a breaker can advise on the correct part against your registration.

The X7 G07 generation runs from 2019, with a facelift introduced in 2022, and while the core platform is shared across this generation, changes at the facelift can affect steering components, so a pre-2022 rack may not be a straight swap into a post-2022 car. Engine size and xDrive specification can also influence rack variants, so you should confirm the exact part against your registration with the breaker rather than assuming all G07 racks are identical. Never assume fitment across the 2022 facelift boundary without the breaker checking the part numbers.

Trim level alone — whether M Sport, xLine, Luxury, or Pure Excellence — does not change the steering rack or associated electrical components on the BMW X7, as these are determined by the drivetrain and generation rather than the trim pack. However, M Sport models may include specific suspension tuning or adaptive dampers that are separate from the steering system itself, so if you are replacing suspension-related parts you should confirm those details with the breaker. For the steering rack or column specifically, quote your registration to the breaker and they can match the correct part regardless of trim badge.

Because the X7 has no hydraulic pump, the components to look at are the electric power steering rack (which contains the electric assist motor on most variants), the steering column, or the associated EPS control module. A breaker who specialises in BMW G07 parts will be able to supply a matching rack or column unit, but you should give them your full registration and ideally the fault code from a diagnostic scan, as variants can differ. Fitting a used EPS rack may also require coding to the car, so factor that into your plans alongside sourcing the part.

The X5 G05 and X7 G07 do share BMW's CLAR platform and some mechanical architecture, but the X7 is a larger, heavier vehicle and steering components are not necessarily interchangeable even where they look similar. Given the differences in wheelbase, weight, and potentially rack specification, you should treat this as unconfirmed and ask the breaker to cross-reference part numbers against both registrations before purchasing. Do not assume platform sharing means part interchangeability without that check.
