The BMW X4 runs across two generations: the F26 (2014–2018) and the G02 (2018 onwards), and front grilles are not interchangeable between these two platforms. Within each generation the front-end panels are broadly shared across the range, so generation is the first thing to confirm when sourcing a used grille. Always check your registration with the breaker to make sure you are being quoted the right platform.
A 2017 X4 is an F26 (first generation, 2014–2018), while a 2019 X4 is a G02 (second generation, 2018 onwards), so these are completely different platforms and the grilles will not interchange. The front-end design changed significantly between generations, covering the grille, bumper and lights. Stick to parts sourced from the correct generation for your car.
The F26 first generation (2014–2018) did not receive a significant mid-life facelift, so grilles within that generation are broadly consistent. The G02 second generation (2018 onwards) received a facelift in 2021, which updated the front-end styling including the grille and bumper. If your car sits either side of that 2021 boundary, confirm with the breaker whether the specific grille they have suits your pre- or post-facelift G02.
Engine choice does not affect front grille fitment on the BMW X4; the panels are shared across the engine range within a generation and facelift period. The exception worth flagging is the X4 M Competition, which has its own M-specific front styling including a different grille design, so that variant is not a straightforward swap with a standard X4 grille. Confirm the exact variant with your breaker if you are unsure which style your car carries.
Trim level does not affect the physical fitment of the grille in terms of mounting and dimensions, as the front-end structure is shared across SE, Sport, xLine and M Sport within the same generation and facelift period. However, there are genuine cosmetic differences between trim levels – the M Sport grille typically features gloss black or darker surrounds and kidney frame finishes that differ from the chrome or body-coloured treatments on SE or xLine cars. A grille from a different trim will bolt on, but the finished look may not match your car's original specification, so bear that in mind when taking a quote from a breaker.
A 2018, 2019 and 2020 X4 are all G02 second-generation cars built before the 2021 facelift, so these sit within the same pre-facelift production run and front-end panels are broadly compatible. You should confirm the specific part against your registration with the breaker, as minor production changes can occur within a run, but in general you are looking in the right place. Fitment cannot be guaranteed without the breaker cross-referencing the part to your vehicle.
