Fitment on a used dpf varies by vehicle, so a bit of detail goes a long way. Our request form covers what breakers need to know, so every quote you get back is for the correct part:
The BMW X4 has run in two generations: the F26 (2014–2018) and the G02 (2018 onwards, with a facelift around 2021). These two generations use different platforms, engines, and exhaust systems, so a DPF from an F26 will not cross over to a G02. Always identify which generation your car is before searching for parts.
A 2017 X4 is an F26 and a 2019 X4 is a G02, meaning they sit either side of the 2018 generation boundary and use fundamentally different engines and exhaust configurations. Whether any specific part can cross that boundary is strong confirm-with-the-breaker territory — quote your registration and engine code when you contact them. Do not assume physical similarity means compatibility.
Trim level does not affect DPF fitment — what matters is the engine code and emissions standard (Euro 5 or Euro 6), not whether your car is badged xLine, M Sport, or another trim. The M40i uses a different engine to the standard 20d or 30d diesel units, so that engine difference does matter regardless of badge. Confirm your engine code (found on the V5C or door jamb) and relay it to the breaker.
Engine code is the most important identifier for a DPF — two X4s from the same year can carry different engines and therefore need different DPFs. On the F26 generation for example, the 20d and 30d use different displacement engines and their exhaust and DPF specifications differ accordingly. Always quote your full engine code to the breaker alongside your registration.
Fitting a DPF from the wrong emissions era is a significant risk for MOT failure and potentially incorrect operation of the engine management system. Euro 5 and Euro 6 DPFs may look similar but can differ in filtration specification and sensor configuration. Confirm with the breaker that the unit they have matches your car's specific emissions standard before purchasing.
Give the breaker your registration number, engine code, and the generation of your X4 (F26 2014–2018 or G02 2018 on) — a good breaker will cross-reference these against the part they have. DPF interchange specifics, particularly across engine variants or year boundaries, are genuinely complex and the breaker's confirmation against your registration is essential. Never rely on year alone, and ask the breaker to confirm the part number matches your application.
