BMW iX3 Propshaft Replacement Parts

The BMW iX3 is a purely electric vehicle built on a rear-wheel-drive platform (G08 generation, launched in the UK from 2021), and in standard rear-wheel-drive form it does not use a conventional propshaft — power goes directly from the rear-mounted electric motor to the rear wheels without a driveshaft running front-to-back. There is no combustion engine driving through a gearbox to a rear axle in the traditional sense, so the part you'd recognise as a propshaft simply does not exist on this model. If you're hearing a noise or feel a vibration, the components worth investigating on the iX3 are the rear driveshafts (half-shafts) that run from the motor unit to each rear wheel, or possibly motor/subframe mounts — confirm with a breaker or technician what you're actually after.

BMW did not offer a four-wheel-drive version of the iX3 (G08) — unlike some of its sister models in the iX range, the iX3 was sold in the UK in rear-wheel-drive configuration only, so there is no variant of this model that carries a propshaft connecting front and rear axles. If you're looking at a full four-wheel-drive BMW EV, you would be looking at a different model entirely, such as the BMW iX (i20). Double-check the vehicle identification plate on the car you're working on to confirm the exact model before ordering any drivetrain parts.

It is very unlikely to be correct — the iX3 (G08) does not use a propshaft in any of its UK variants, so a quote for that specific part is almost certainly a misidentification of what you need. The more likely requirement is a rear driveshaft (also called a half-shaft or CV driveshaft), which runs from the rear electric motor to one of the rear wheels, and these are NS (nearside/left) and OS (offside/right) specific, so make sure you know which side you need before approaching a breaker. Go back to the breaker with the exact part description and your registration to make sure you're getting the right component.

The most commonly confused parts on the iX3 are the rear driveshafts (half-shafts), which can cause similar symptoms to a worn propshaft on a combustion-engined car — clunking, vibration, or noise under load — because they also transfer rotational drive and use CV joints that wear over time. There are two rear driveshafts, one on each side, and they are not interchangeable between NS and OS, so tell the breaker which side you need. Motor mounts and rear subframe bushes are also worth considering if the symptom is more of a general vibration or knocking rather than a clicking noise on turns.

Trim level — whether your iX3 is in xLine, M Sport, or any other specification — does not affect which rear driveshaft you need, as the drivetrain components are the same across the range. What matters is the model generation (G08, 2021 onwards) and which side (NS or OS) you need, so focus on those details when speaking to a breaker.
