Fitment on a used door varies by vehicle, so a bit of detail goes a long way. Our request form covers what breakers need to know, so every quote you get back is for the correct part:
The modern BMW 8 Series (G15 coupe, G14 convertible, G16 Gran Coupe) ran from 2018 onwards, and doors from within that generation are your starting point for a match. Always confirm the exact body style matches your car — coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe doors are not interchangeable with each other due to different frame geometry. Ask your breaker to check against your registration to be sure.
The G15/G14/G16 8 Series received a facelift in 2022, and while the core body structure was carried over, panel and trim detailing around the doors can differ between pre-facelift (2018–2022) and post-facelift (2022 onwards) cars. Whether the door itself crosses that boundary without issue is something you should confirm with the breaker against your registration, as fit and aperture seal profiles can vary. Never assume a pre- and post-facelift door are a straight swap without that check.
For fitment purposes, trim level does not affect whether a door will fit — the shell and frame are the same across 840i, 840d, and M850i variants on the same body style and generation. The main practical difference is cosmetic: M850i doors may carry different exterior trim finishes or badges, but the door frame itself will fit. Colour can always be resprayed, so focus on matching the generation, body style, and side (NS or OS) rather than the trim grade.
NS stands for nearside, which in the UK is the passenger side (left when sitting in the car), and OS stands for offside, which is the driver's side (right). Getting this right is essential — a door from the wrong side will not fit. Always double-check which side you need before contacting a breaker.
Colour is not a fitment issue — any door in the correct generation, body style, and side will fit regardless of the original paint. You or a bodyshop can have the door resprayed to match your car, so don't let a colour mismatch put you off an otherwise correct door. Focus your search on getting the generation, body style (coupe, Gran Coupe, or convertible), and NS or OS side correct.
It is worth mentioning any specific features your door has, such as the type of mirror or window regulator, when speaking to a breaker, but whether those features affect the door shell's fitment can vary and is not always straightforward to confirm from a listing. The breaker will be best placed to advise once they check the part against your registration. The door frame itself is the key fitment item — features can sometimes be transferred or swapped.
