Fitment questions

What generation is my BMW 4 Series and does it matter for buying a used wiper motor?

The BMW 4 Series ran as the F32/F33/F36 generation from 2013 to 2020, with a facelift in 2017, and was replaced by the G22/G23/G26 generation from 2021 onwards. Generation matters a great deal for wiper motor fitment, as the F-series and G-series use different bodyshells and different wiper systems. Always tell the breaker which generation you have, and confirm with them using your registration to be sure.

Will a wiper motor from a 2016 BMW 4 Series fit my 2018 facelift model?

The 2016 car is a pre-facelift F-series and the 2018 is a post-facelift F-series, but both sit within the same F32/F33/F36 generation that ran from 2013 to 2020. The facelift in 2017 was primarily cosmetic, so front wiper motors within the F-series generation often interchange, but whether a specific unit from either side of the 2017 facelift boundary crosses over cleanly is worth confirming with the breaker against your registration before buying.

Does the trim level affect which wiper motor I need — for example, does a Sport or M Sport use a different motor to a SE?

Trim level does not affect wiper motor fitment on the BMW 4 Series — the SE, Sport, M Sport, and M Sport X all use the same wiper system for a given generation and body style. You may find minor cosmetic differences in wiper blade style or finisher depending on specification, but the motor itself is the same unit. Confirm with the breaker using your registration to make sure you are getting the correct front or rear motor for your car.

Is the front wiper motor the same as the rear wiper motor on a BMW 4 Series?

No, front and rear wiper motors are completely different parts with different mountings, connectors, and drive mechanisms, so you must specify which one you need when contacting a breaker. The coupe (F32/G22) does not have a rear wiper, so a rear motor is only relevant if you have the Gran Coupe (F36/G26) body style. Make sure you tell the breaker which body style and which motor position you need.

Will a wiper motor from an F-series BMW 4 Series fit a G-series 4 Series?

The F-series (2013–2020) and G-series (2021 onwards) are entirely different generations with different bodyshells, so their wiper motors are not interchangeable. This is one of the clearest fitment boundaries on the 4 Series and crossing it is very unlikely to work. Stick to parts from the same generation as your car and confirm with the breaker using your registration.

Does it matter which engine my BMW 4 Series has when buying a used wiper motor?

Engine specification has no bearing on wiper motor fitment — a 420i, 430i, 420d, or any other variant within the same generation will use the same wiper motor provided the body style and motor position match. What matters is the generation (F-series or G-series), the body style, and whether you need the front or rear motor. Confirm the part with your breaker using your registration to be certain.
