Fitment questions

What years does the Vauxhall Signum cover, and are there different generations to worry about?

The Vauxhall Signum was produced from 2003 to 2008 and sits on the same Z-CAR platform as the Vectra C throughout its entire run, so there is only one generation to consider. However, a facelift was introduced in 2005 which updated the front end, including the headlights, grille and bumper. When searching for a used headlight, the key question is whether the part comes from a pre-facelift (2003–2005) or facelift (2005–2008) car.

Will a headlight from a 2004 Signum fit my 2007 Signum?

Your 2007 car is a facelift model and the 2004 car is pre-facelift, meaning they sit either side of the 2005 facelift boundary where the front-end styling changed. It is possible the headlight units differ between these two periods, so you should confirm directly with the breaker whether the specific part they have will cross that facelift boundary and suit your registration. Never assume a pre-2005 unit will drop straight in to a post-2005 car without checking.

Does the trim level matter — will a headlight from a Design or Elite fit my Signum regardless of spec?

Trim level — whether Design, Elite or any other Signum grade — does not affect headlight fitment because the front-end structure is shared across the range. That said, some trim levels were more likely to be fitted with xenon headlights as standard or as an option, so the unit you source may look or feel different cosmetically to what you currently have. Confirm with the breaker whether the headlight they are selling is halogen or xenon so it matches your existing setup.

Does it matter if my Signum has halogen or xenon headlights?

The Signum was available with both halogen and xenon (HID) headlights, and these units are not simply interchangeable — xenon systems require additional components such as ballasts and self-levelling motors. When contacting a breaker, quote your registration and tell them which type is currently fitted to your car so they can match the correct unit. This is something you must confirm with the breaker rather than assume from year or trim alone.

Will a Vauxhall Vectra C headlight fit my Signum?

The Signum shares the Vectra C platform and the cars are closely related, but the Signum has its own distinct front-end styling and the headlight units are not the same as those on the Vectra C saloon or estate. You should not assume Vectra C headlights will fit your Signum without confirming the exact part number with a breaker who has both cars to hand. Always quote your Signum's registration when asking for a quote.

Does it matter whether I need a nearside (NS) or offside (OS) headlight?

Yes — the NS (passenger side, left) and OS (driver side, right) headlights are handed and not interchangeable with each other. When contacting a breaker, make clear which side you need and double-check this against your own car before fitting. If you are unsure which side is which, NS is the left as you sit in the driver's seat and OS is the right.
