Start your part requestUsed headlights vary between vehicles - and whether you call it used, second hand or a replacement, matching the right one matters. These are the details breakers need to match the right part to your car - our request form asks them so you only hear from suppliers with the correct part:
The modern Astra generations most commonly seen at UK breakers are the Mk4 (G) from 1998 to 2004, the Mk5 (H) from 2004 to 2010, the Mk6 (J) from 2010 to 2015, and the Mk7 (K) from 2015 to 2022. Headlights are generation-specific, so you need to match the correct generation first before worrying about anything else. Give your registration to the breaker and they can confirm exactly which generation yours is.
This is a key boundary question: the Astra J ran from 2010 to 2015, while the Astra K started from 2015, so a 2013 unit is Astra J and a 2015 car could be either the very late J or the new K depending on when in 2015 it was registered. Even within the Astra J, there was a facelift in 2012 that updated the front-end styling including the headlights, so you also need to know which side of that 2012 facelift both cars sit on. Confirm the exact generation and facelift period with the breaker against both registrations before buying.
Trim level does not determine which headlight fits — what matters is the generation and whether the car is pre- or post-facelift. That said, higher trims such as SRi or Elite were more commonly specified with projector-style or xenon/LED units, while entry trims like SE or Design were more often supplied with standard halogen lights, so a headlight from a different trim may look slightly different or have different connectors even if it physically locates the same. Always confirm with the breaker whether the unit from their car matches your light type — halogen, xenon, or LED — before purchasing.
Within a given generation, the front-end structure including the headlights is shared across body styles, so a headlight from an Astra J hatchback will correspond to the same part as one from an Astra J Sports Tourer estate. The GTC shared the same front-end architecture within the J generation as well. Body style and door count do not affect headlight fitment, so you do not need to match those when searching for a used unit.
The Astra J facelift arrived in 2012 and brought changes to the front end including the headlight design, so pre-facelift (2010–2012) and post-facelift (2012–2015) units are not the same shape. Whether a specific headlight from one side of that 2012 boundary will physically interchange with the other is something you need to confirm with the breaker against your registration, as subtle changes mean assumptions can be costly. Do not buy across that boundary without checking with the dismantler first.
Engine and gearbox have no bearing on headlight fitment — the front-end panels including headlights are shared across all engine variants within a generation. What you do need to match is the generation, the facelift period, and your light technology (halogen, xenon, or LED), since those affect connectors and internal components. Confirm the light type with your breaker against your registration to make sure the used unit matches what you need.
Fitment guidance is general and mistakes can happen - vehicle specifications vary and manufacturers make mid-production changes. Always confirm the exact part against your registration with the supplying breaker before buying.
