Fitment on a used ignition barrel varies by vehicle, so a bit of detail goes a long way. Our request form covers what breakers need to know, so every quote you get back is for the correct part:
The Meriva B (2010 onwards) typically uses a keyless ignition button system rather than a traditional ignition barrel, so many examples do not have a barrel at all. The earlier Meriva A (2003–2010) did use a conventional ignition barrel. If you're unsure which system your car has, check whether your Meriva uses a physical key to start the engine or a push-button, as this will confirm whether you need a barrel or a different starting system component.
Both a 2006 and a 2009 Meriva fall within the Meriva A generation (2003–2010), so there is a reasonable chance the barrel will interchange, but ignition barrels can be security-coded to the vehicle and may need to be paired with the matching ECU or lock set. Always confirm the part number and coding requirements with the breaker before buying. A breaker will be able to advise whether the barrel from a donor vehicle can be recoded or whether you need to source it with the full lock set.
The Meriva A (2003–2010) and Meriva B (2010–2017) are entirely different generations on different platforms, so parts do not interchange between them. More importantly, many Meriva B models use a push-button start rather than a traditional ignition barrel, so a Meriva A barrel is unlikely to be relevant to a Meriva B owner at all. Confirm with your breaker exactly what starting system your Meriva B has before searching for a barrel.
Trim level does not affect ignition barrel fitment – Active, Club, Expression, and Life specifications all used the same barrel within the Meriva A generation. What matters is the generation and whether the car uses a physical key, not the trim. Bear in mind the barrel may need to be recoded to your vehicle's immobiliser, which is a factor regardless of trim.
For the Meriva A, breakers can sometimes supply just the barrel, but because the barrel is linked to the immobiliser system, it often needs to come as a matched set with the ECU and other lock components, or be professionally recoded after fitting. Confirm with the breaker whether the barrel they are selling is supplied coded to a specific vehicle and what recoding work will be needed. A auto locksmith or Vauxhall dealer may be needed to complete the job safely.
Some Meriva B models (2010–2017) were indeed fitted with a conventional ignition barrel rather than push-button start, so the breaker may well be correct. The best way to confirm is to check your own car first – if it takes a physical key to start, you have a barrel; if it has a start button and a proximity key, you do not. If you do need a barrel, confirm the full part number with the breaker against your registration to ensure the correct unit is supplied.
