Cheap Vauxhall Insignia Propshaft

Only some Insignias have a propshaft — specifically the four-wheel-drive versions badged as 4x4 or AWD, which use a propshaft to transfer drive to the rear axle. The vast majority of Insignias are front-wheel-drive and have no propshaft at all. If your car is front-wheel-drive, you are most likely looking for a driveshaft (also called a half-shaft), not a propshaft — confirm your drivetrain layout before ordering.

The Insignia ran across two generations: the Mk1 (sometimes called Insignia A) from 2008 to 2017, and the Mk2 (Insignia B, also sold as the Grand Sport and Sports Tourer) from 2017 onwards. The AWD/4x4 drivetrain was offered on both generations, but the two generations used different platforms and the propshaft is not interchangeable between them. Always confirm you are matching the correct generation when sourcing a used propshaft from a breaker.

Both of those years fall within the Mk1 generation (2008–2017), so you are within the same platform, which is a good starting point. However, fitment can also vary with engine output — more powerful AWD variants may use a heavier-duty propshaft — so confirm the engine size and specification of the donor vehicle against your own with the breaker before buying. Never assume a part fits on generation alone.

These are different generations — the Mk1 ran to 2017 and the Mk2 began in 2017 — and they sit on different platforms, so the propshafts are very unlikely to be interchangeable across that boundary. You should quote your exact registration to the breaker so they can match the correct part to your specific vehicle. Do not assume cross-generation fitment even if the engine size looks the same.

Trim level — whether SRi, Design, Elite, or any other — does not determine propshaft fitment; what matters is whether the car is AWD or front-wheel-drive, and the engine specification. An SRi and an Elite with the same drivetrain and engine would use the same propshaft. Confirm the drivetrain layout and engine size with the breaker against your registration rather than going by trim name alone.

A front-wheel-drive Insignia has no propshaft; drive goes directly from the gearbox to the front wheels via two driveshafts (half-shafts), one on each side. If you are experiencing vibration or a knocking noise, you are most likely looking for a driveshaft — specify nearside (NS, left) or offside (OS, right) when asking for quotes from breakers. Confirm the exact fault with a mechanic before ordering to make sure you identify the correct part.
