Most variants of the GLA do use a conventional vacuum brake servo, but later GLA H247 models (2020 onwards) with certain electrified or turbocharged petrol engines may use an electric or electrohydraulic brake booster rather than a traditional vacuum servo — so the specific part you need depends heavily on the exact variant and year of your car. If your GLA is a hybrid or uses a modern turbocharged four-cylinder without a traditional vacuum source, the system may differ from an older H247 or the first-generation X156. Always confirm with the breaker against your exact registration before ordering.

Both years fall within the first-generation GLA, known as the X156, which ran from 2013 to 2019, so they share the same fundamental platform — however, fitment of the brake servo can vary with engine size, since larger or more powerful engines sometimes carry a different servo specification. Confirm the exact engine variant with the breaker against both registrations rather than assuming all X156 servos are interchangeable. A breaker will be able to cross-reference your VIN to make sure the part matches.

The X156 (2013–2019) and the H247 (2020 onwards) are entirely different generations built on different platforms, so the brake servo is not expected to cross over between them. The H247 also introduced variants with electric brake boost systems that have no direct equivalent in the X156. Trim level alone — whether SE, Sport, AMG Line, or others — does not affect brake servo fitment; what matters is the engine variant, since a GLA 250 with its larger turbocharged engine may run a different servo specification to a GLA 200. So a GLA 200 SE and a GLA 200 AMG Line of the same generation would be expected to share the same servo, but comparing a 200 to a 250 is where you need to check carefully. Diesel and petrol engines can use different brake servo setups because diesel engines typically produce more vacuum naturally, which can influence the servo specification chosen by the manufacturer. It is possible that the 220d and 200 share a servo within the same generation, but this is not something to assume — engine type and size are among the key factors that can affect which servo was fitted. Confirm both the engine variant and the generation with the breaker against your registration before purchasing.

The GLA 45 AMG uses a significantly more powerful engine and is likely to have uprated braking components to match, which could mean a different servo specification compared to standard GLA variants. While it may physically resemble the standard part, fitting an AMG-spec servo to a non-AMG car is not straightforward and any compatibility would need to be confirmed carefully. Discuss this directly with the breaker, quoting both registrations, before proceeding.
