Only turbocharged C-Class engines have an intercooler — it is part of the forced-induction system and does not exist on naturally aspirated petrol variants. The vast majority of C-Class diesels (CDI engines) are turbocharged and do have one, as do the turbocharged petrol variants including AMG and later four-cylinder petrols. The W203 (2000–2007) and W204 (2007–2014) are entirely different generations with different engine families, packaging, and mounting arrangements, so their intercoolers are not interchangeable. Even where engine codes appear similar across generations, the physical fitment and pipe routing differ. Always give the breaker your exact engine code — found on your V5 or via a VIN check — rather than relying on the generation name alone.

The W204 ran from 2007 to 2014, with a facelift in 2011, and while the core engine architecture was largely carried over, ancillary components and mounting details can change mid-production. Whether an intercooler from a 2008 car fits a 2012 car is something you should confirm with the breaker against your specific registration and engine code, as subtle pipe or bracket changes can affect direct fitment.

Trim level and badge do not affect intercooler fitment — what matters is the engine code, not the C200d or C220d designation on the boot lid. Both of those badges can share the same underlying engine family in the W205 (2014–2021, facelift 2018), so the intercoolers may well be identical, but you should supply your exact engine code to the breaker to be certain rather than relying on the badge alone.

The W205 was facelifted in 2018 and while the engine codes were largely carried across, there is a real possibility of changes to ancillary components and pipe connections at that boundary. Name the boundary clearly when speaking to a breaker and give them both your engine code and your registration so they can check the specific part numbers before committing to a sale.

Body style makes no difference to intercooler fitment — it is an engine-side mechanical component and is the same regardless of whether your car is a saloon, estate, or coupe. What the breaker needs is your engine code, fuel type, and year, not the body style. Provide those details and you will get an accurate match without the body style complicating things.
