Fitment questions

What years does the Ford Transit front grille fit across – what are the main generations I need to know?

The current Transit (MK8, sometimes called the sixth-generation Transit) has been built since 2013, with a mid-life facelift arriving in 2019 that brought a redesigned front end including a new grille and bumper style. The previous generation (MK7) ran from 2006 to 2013, and before that the MK6 ran from 2000 to 2006. Always match your grille to the correct generation and whether your van is pre- or post-facelift, as these are the two things that determine whether a panel will line up.

Will a grille from a 2017 Transit fit my 2021 Transit?

This is likely to be a problem – the 2017 van is a pre-facelift MK8, while the 2021 van falls after the 2019 facelift which brought a revised front end with a different grille design and bumper shape. Both are MK8 Transits, so you are in the right generation, but whether the specific panel crosses that 2019 facelift boundary is something you should confirm with the breaker against your registration before ordering.

Does the Transit grille differ between a base, Limited, or Trail trim – will any used one fit my van?

Trim level does not affect which grille fits from a structural and mounting point of view – the front-end panels are shared across trim grades within the same generation and facelift period. However, you may find cosmetic differences such as chrome finishing on a Limited grille versus a plainer finish on a base-spec van, so check with the breaker whether the colour and finish of the used part matches what you want.

Does the grille change between short wheelbase and long wheelbase Transits?

No – wheelbase, roof height, and body length do not affect the front grille, which is the same across all body configurations within the same generation and facelift period. When you contact a breaker, focus on the model year and whether the donor van is pre- or post-2019 facelift, not on whether it was an SWB or LWB.

I have a 2013 Transit – is that the old MK7 or the new MK8, and will a used grille from either year work?

The Transit moved from MK7 to MK8 in 2013, so a 2013 van could be either the outgoing MK7 or the early MK8 depending on the exact build date, and the front ends are quite different between those two generations. Check your registration on the DVLA database or with a breaker using your VIN to confirm which generation you have before searching for a replacement grille, as fitting the wrong generation panel is unlikely to work.

Does the engine or van size affect which Transit grille I need?

Engine choice has no bearing on the front grille fitment whatsoever – whether your Transit has a 2.0-litre EcoBlue or an older 2.2 TDCI engine makes no difference to which grille fits. Stick to matching generation (MK7 2006–2013 or MK8 2013–present) and facelift period (pre- or post-2019 for the MK8), and the panel should line up correctly.
