Fitment questions

Will a BMW 3 Series indicator light from a 2006 car fit my 2009 3 Series?

Both years fall within the E90-generation 3 Series (2005–2012), so in principle the body panels and lights are from the same platform — however, the E90 received a facelift in 2008, which brought revised front-end styling including the indicators. A pre-facelift (2005–2007) indicator is unlikely to be a straight swap onto a post-facelift (2008–2012) car, so confirm with the breaker against your registration before ordering.

Does the facelift year affect which indicator light I need for my E90 3 Series?

Yes — the E90 3 Series facelift arrived in 2008 and brought updated front-end lighting, so pre-facelift (2005–2007) and post-facelift (2008–2012) indicators are not the same part. When contacting a breaker, give them your registration so they can confirm exactly which indicator variant your car requires.

Does my trim level — SE, M Sport, ES or Sport — change which indicator light I need?

Trim level does not affect indicator light fitment on the BMW 3 Series — the same indicator fits across SE, ES, Sport and M Sport within the same generation and facelift period. Do be aware that M Sport models may have slightly different bumper or front-end styling, so confirm the donor car's trim with the breaker if you want the surrounding area to match perfectly.

Will a 3 Series saloon indicator fit my 3 Series Touring or Coupe?

For front indicators, body style generally does not matter — front-end panels including indicator lights are shared across saloon, Touring estate and Coupe variants within the same generation and facelift period. The key questions are generation (E90, E46, etc.) and whether the donor car is pre- or post-facelift, not which body style it came from.

I have an E46 3 Series — can I use an indicator light from an E90?

No — the E46 (1998–2006) and E90 (2005–2012) are completely different generations with different front-end designs, so their indicator lights are not interchangeable. Make sure any breaker you contact is supplying a part from the correct generation for your car.

Does it matter whether the donor car had halogen or xenon headlights when buying a used indicator light for my 3 Series?

It can matter — within a generation and facelift period, halogen and xenon or LED headlight variants may have different indicator light assemblies or fittings. This is something to confirm directly with the breaker against your registration rather than assume the parts will interchange.
