Fitment questions

Will a sill from a BMW 2 Series coupe fit my convertible?

No — the sill is a structural body panel and the coupe (F22, 2014–2021) and convertible (F23, 2014–2021) share the same platform but have different body structures, so their sills are not interchangeable. Body style is the first thing to get right when sourcing a sill. Always confirm the exact body style with the breaker against your registration before ordering.

Does a sill from an early F22 2 Series (2014–2017) fit a post-facelift F22 (2017–2021)?

The F22 ran from 2014 to 2021 with a facelift around 2017, and while the generation and body shell remained the same, mid-generation pressing changes can sometimes affect outer panel fitment. Name the boundary with confidence: if your car is on either side of the 2017 facelift, confirm with the breaker against your registration whether the specific pressing matches before buying.

Is there any difference between a sill for a 2 Series M Sport and one for a Sport or SE?

Trim level does not affect the structural sill itself — the underlying pressing is the same regardless of whether your car is SE, Sport, M Sport, or M Sport X. However, M Sport and some other trims use different sill covers or skirt finishers over the top, so if you need the decorative cover as well as the sill itself, make sure the breaker's part matches your trim. The core sill will fit regardless of trim.

Will a Gran Coupe (F36) sill fit a standard 2 Series coupe (F22)?

No — although both carry the 2 Series name and are broadly contemporary, the F36 Gran Coupe is a four-door body style with a completely different body structure from the two-door F22 coupe, and their sills are not the same part. Always match the body style exactly when sourcing a sill. Confirm the body style and chassis code with your breaker against your registration.

Can I use a 1 Series (F20/F21) sill on my BMW 2 Series coupe?

No — despite the 2 Series coupe (F22) being related to the F20/F21 1 Series, the body styles differ and the sills are not shared parts. The coupe bodyshell has its own unique sill pressings. Stick to parts sourced from an F22 2 Series coupe of the correct year range and confirm with your breaker.

What year range and generation is my BMW 2 Series, and does it affect which sill I need?

The BMW 2 Series has run in two main generations: the F-series (F22 coupe, F23 convertible, F45 Active Tourer, F46 Gran Tourer, F36 Gran Coupe) from around 2014 onwards, and the G-series (G42 coupe, G60-platform variants) from 2021 onwards — sills are generation and body-style specific and will not cross between these. The F-series and G-series use entirely different body structures, so a sill from one will not fit the other. Give your breaker your full registration so they can confirm the exact chassis code and body style before supplying a part.
