No two axles are quite the same across different vehicles, so getting the specifics right matters when you buy used, second hand or a replacement. Answer a few quick questions below and breakers will only quote if they have the exact matching part in stock:

Fitment questions

Will an axle from a 2005 A-Class fit my 2001 A-Class?

The W168 A-Class ran from 1997 to 2004, while the W169 generation took over from 2004 to 2012, so a 2005 car is a completely different generation to a 2001 car and the axles are not interchangeable between them. Stick to W168 donor cars (1997–2004) when sourcing for a pre-2004 A-Class, or W169 cars (2004–2012) for a later one. Always confirm the exact part against your registration with the breaker before purchasing.

Does engine size make a difference when sourcing an A-Class axle?

Yes — larger-engined A-Class models can carry uprated braking and suspension components compared to smaller-engined variants, so an axle from a 1.5 or 1.6 petrol car may not be a straight swap onto a 2.0 AMG-engined model. Always tell the breaker your exact engine size and variant so they can match the correct specification. Never assume an axle from any A-Class will suit yours without checking against your registration.

Does trim level matter — will an axle from an SE fit a Sport or AMG Line A-Class?

Trim level alone does not determine axle fitment — an SE, Sport, or AMG Line badge does not change the fundamental axle specification. What you should be aware of is that Sport and AMG Line models may have had different spring or damper rates fitted from the factory, but whether this affects the axle itself is something to confirm with the breaker against your registration rather than assume. Focus on matching generation and engine size rather than trim name.

Does it matter which side the axle comes from?

For a complete rear axle on the A-Class this is less of a concern, but if you are sourcing individual wishbones or part-axle components then the nearside (NS, passenger side) and offside (OS, driver side) are not interchangeable and you must specify the correct side to the breaker. Make sure you identify exactly which component you need before getting quotes, as 'axle' can mean different things to different breakers.

Can I use a W169 A-Class axle on my W169 facelift car — does the 2008 facelift change anything?

The W169 A-Class received a facelift around 2008 but remained the same generation through to 2012, so in principle axle components come from the same platform throughout. However, whether specific axle parts are identical across the pre- and post-facelift W169 is something you should confirm with the breaker against your registration, as mid-generation running gear updates can sometimes affect compatibility. Name the year of your donor car as well as your own when requesting a quote.

Will a W177 A-Class axle fit a W176?

No — the W176 (2012–2018) and the W177 (2018 onwards) are separate generations with different platforms, and their axle components are not interchangeable. Source your axle from a W176 donor car if your A-Class is from the 2012–2018 generation, matching engine size as closely as possible. Confirm the exact specification with the breaker using your registration number before agreeing a purchase.
